Afrobeats superstar Davido has revealed that he personally witnessed President Bola Tinubu’s telephone conversation with Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, describing the moment as a significant political development ahead of the state’s governorship election.
The singer made the revelation on Thursday after the Presidency confirmed that Tinubu had spoken with Adeleke regarding the controversy surrounding the freezing of Osun State Government accounts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to the Presidency, the President directed the anti-graft agency to immediately reverse the decision to freeze the state’s accounts, a move that followed widespread criticism and concerns over its timing just days before the August 15 governorship election.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga announced the development in a post on his official X account, confirming that Tinubu personally informed Governor Adeleke of his directive to the EFCC during their telephone conversation.
Reacting shortly after the announcement, Davido—who is Governor Adeleke’s nephew—shared Onanuga’s post and disclosed that he was present during the call.
“I was there live! I witnessed history,” the award-winning singer wrote.
Davido has remained actively involved in his uncle’s re-election campaign and has repeatedly urged residents of Osun State to ensure the election is peaceful and credible. In recent days, he has also exchanged public remarks with political figures over comments relating to the upcoming poll.
The latest development comes amid heightened political tension in Osun, where the August 15 governorship election is expected to be closely contested. The reversal of the EFCC’s account freeze has become one of the biggest talking points in the state’s political landscape, with opposition parties and observers closely monitoring events leading up to election day.
