Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms are already delivering results and will ultimately secure him a second term in the 2027 general election.
The governor made the remarks during a state dinner at the Government House in Owerri, marking the end of a three-day inspection tour of federal and state government projects by members of the Presidential Communications Team and the Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Imo State.
Uzodimma said President Tinubu assumed office with a clear understanding of Nigeria’s economic challenges and immediately introduced reforms aimed at addressing long-standing structural problems. According to him, the administration’s policies are laying the groundwork for sustainable economic growth despite the initial hardship experienced by many Nigerians.
Drawing a comparison with Singapore’s founding Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew, the governor described Tinubu as a leader willing to implement difficult but necessary reforms that could transform the country’s future. He argued that history often remembers leaders who take bold decisions for long-term national development.
Using a biblical analogy, Uzodimma likened Nigeria’s economy before the reforms to the Israelites’ years of bondage in Egypt. He said the current economic measures were necessary to free the country from years of stagnation and place it on a more stable path toward growth.
While acknowledging that the reforms have placed short-term pressure on citizens, the governor insisted they are beginning to produce positive outcomes. He noted that increased revenue allocations to states have strengthened the ability of sub-national governments to invest in infrastructure, healthcare, education, technology and other key sectors.
Uzodimma attributed many of the ongoing infrastructure projects across Imo State to the improved fiscal environment created by the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He said the state government has expanded investments in projects designed to stimulate economic growth and improve the quality of life for residents.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, commended the pace of development in Imo State. In a statement issued by the Director of Media and Publicity of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Tunde Rahman, Dare said the projects inspected during the tour reflected effective collaboration between the Federal Government and the Imo State Government. He added that the partnership demonstrates the practical implementation of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to working with states to drive development and improve public service delivery nationwide.
