The Executive Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area in Sokoto State, Isa Kalanjeni, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and stepped down from his position as council chairman, citing personal reasons and administrative challenges.
The twin resignations were conveyed in separate letters made available to journalists on Tuesday, marking a significant political development in the state ahead of ongoing political realignments.
In a letter dated May 5, 2026, and addressed to the APC Ward Chairman of Kalanjeni Ward, the council boss formally announced his exit from the ruling party with immediate effect.
“I wish to formally inform you of my decision to resign from the APC with immediate effect,” Kalanjeni wrote.
He explained that his decision was based on personal considerations, while expressing appreciation to the party for the opportunity to serve as one of its members.
A second letter, dated July 7, 2026, was addressed to the Secretary to the Sokoto State Government and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, informing them of his resignation as the elected Executive Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area.
The letter stated that his resignation takes effect immediately. Kalanjeni said the decision followed extensive consultations with his family, political associates and community stakeholders.
He also pointed to administrative difficulties that had made it increasingly challenging to discharge his responsibilities effectively.
“Due to recent unavoidable administrative challenges, I find that I am no longer able to execute the responsibilities of this office to the high standard expected of me,” he stated.
Despite stepping down, Kalanjeni thanked the people of Tangaza, members of the legislative council and council staff for the opportunity to serve. He wished the incoming leadership success in moving the local government forward.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Sokoto State Government nor the APC in the state had issued an official response to Kalanjeni’s resignation from the party and his office.
