Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have recorded fresh successes in the North-East after six suspected ISWAP terrorists surrendered alongside their family members, while security forces rescued kidnapped victims and arrested several suspected terrorist logistics suppliers in separate operations across Borno and Adamawa states.
The latest developments were disclosed by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, in a statement issued in Maiduguri.
According to the military, the six suspected ISWAP members voluntarily surrendered to troops of the 192 Battalion in Sector 1. Recovered from the suspects and their families were more than ₦1.5 million in cash, two Tecno mobile phones and other personal items believed to be relevant to ongoing investigations.
In another operation, troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion rescued two abducted victims during search-and-rescue missions in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State. Soldiers also recovered ₦1.2 million, suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities, alongside food supplies and logistics believed to have supported terrorist operations. The rescued victims have since been moved to a secure location where they are receiving medical treatment and psychosocial support.
Operation HADIN KAI also disclosed that troops successfully repelled a coordinated attack by suspected ISWAP fighters on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Logomani in Borno State. Although the attackers briefly breached part of the defensive perimeter during the fierce gun battle, troops regrouped and launched a counter-offensive that forced the insurgents to retreat with heavy casualties.
The military, however, confirmed that one soldier was killed during the encounter, while two gun trucks and other combat equipment were damaged. It assured that the base remains fully under military control, with reinforcements deployed and clearance operations continuing in the area.
Elsewhere, troops of the 232 Battalion arrested a suspected notorious criminal in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State. Follow-up operations led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, two magazines and 28 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. Investigations are ongoing to identify other members of the criminal network.
Security forces also intensified efforts to disrupt terrorist supply chains. Troops of the 149 Battalion arrested two suspected logistics suppliers in Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State, recovering cash, a Volkswagen Golf vehicle, construction materials, household items and other supplies allegedly meant for terrorist groups.
In separate operations, troops intercepted additional suspected logistics suppliers transporting medical supplies and motorcycle tyres believed to be destined for terrorist elements. Meanwhile, a joint operation involving troops of the 24 Task Force Brigade and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force cleared terrorist hideouts around Wulgo, recovering a sack of illicit drugs abandoned by fleeing insurgents.
The Theatre Command said the latest operations demonstrate the effectiveness of sustained military offensives, intelligence gathering and collaboration with local security partners. It warned that anyone providing food, fuel, transportation, construction materials or any other form of support to terrorist groups would be identified, arrested and prosecuted under Nigerian law.
