Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate Rotimi Amaechi were seen together on Wednesday at the service of songs held in honour of Nkechi Stella Rhodes-Vivour, the late mother of Lagos ADC governorship candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.
The event took place at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Fountain of Life Sanctuary in Ikeja, Lagos, and attracted prominent political leaders, family members and sympathisers who gathered to pay their final respects.
Videos and photographs from the ceremony showed Obi and Amaechi warmly greeting each other with a hug before engaging in a brief conversation, a moment that quickly drew attention on social media given their prominent roles in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
The appearance comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with both politicians remaining influential figures within their respective political platforms.
The service of songs was held in memory of Nkechi Stella Rhodes-Vivour, who became widely known during the 2023 election season for her active support of her son’s governorship campaign in Lagos State.
Following the 2023 elections, she publicly alleged widespread vote-buying and criticised security agencies for what she described as their failure to arrest those responsible for electoral malpractice.
While Wednesday’s event was primarily a solemn gathering to honour her memory, the meeting between Obi and Amaechi has generated public interest, with many observers closely watching interactions among key political figures as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.
