Fear has gripped residents of Omoku in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State following a deadly attack that reportedly claimed the lives of four people, including the commander of the community’s Organised Security Peace and Advisory Committee (OSPAC).
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, also left two other people with serious injuries. The victims are currently receiving treatment at a hospital, while security agencies continue efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack.
The slain OSPAC commander was identified simply as Boski, who headed the OSPAC unit in Omoku. Three women were also reportedly killed during the assault, although authorities have yet to officially confirm the casualty figures.
As of the time of filing this report, the motive behind the attack remained unclear, and the Rivers State Police Command had not released an official statement on the incident.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the violence had thrown the community into panic, forcing many residents to remain indoors over fears of further attacks.
The source added that normally busy streets in Omoku became unusually quiet shortly after the incident, with many business owners shutting their shops early as commercial activities and movement across the town declined significantly.
The latest attack has renewed concerns about security in the oil-producing community, where residents have repeatedly called for stronger measures to tackle violent crime and protect lives.
Community members are now urging security agencies to swiftly identify and arrest those responsible while restoring confidence among residents.
At the time of publication, police had yet to confirm any arrests or provide further details on the investigation.
