The family of a Nigerian woman who died suddenly while visiting the United Kingdom has launched a fundraising campaign to repatriate her remains to Nigeria for burial.
Christiana Nwosu reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest on July 19, 2026, leaving her children, relatives and friends in mourning. Her death has prompted an emotional appeal for public support to help cover the cost of returning her body to her homeland.
The fundraising campaign, hosted on GoFundMe and signed by Chijioke Metuka on behalf of the Nwosu family, described Christiana as a loving woman whose warmth and kindness touched everyone around her. The family said her sudden passing had left an irreplaceable void.
According to the appeal, the family’s greatest wish is to lay her to rest in Nigeria, where she can be buried among her extended family and ancestral roots. However, they said the cost of repatriating her remains from the UK is beyond what they can comfortably afford.
The family estimated that the process would cost about £10,000, covering funeral director fees, specialist repatriation services, documentation, air freight, local transportation, and burial expenses in Nigeria.
“We have set up this fund to support Izuchukwu and his family during this incredibly difficult time,” the appeal stated. “Every single donation, no matter the size, will go directly towards covering these repatriation and funeral expenses to help ease the financial strain on the family.”
The organisers also appealed to members of the public who may not be able to contribute financially to support the family by sharing the fundraising campaign and keeping them in their thoughts and prayers.
As of the time of filing this report, £7,941 had been raised towards the £10,000 target. The tragedy comes months after another Nigerian family launched a similar appeal following the death of Oluranti Akinyemi, who passed away in the UK shortly after arriving for her son’s graduation ceremony.
