Mrs. Florence Ajimobi has officially arrived in Vienna to begin her duties as Nigeria’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to Austria and the International Organisations based in the Austrian capital.
Announcing her arrival in a Facebook post on Friday, Ajimobi said she was received at the VIP Wing of Vienna International Airport by the Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of Nigeria’s Embassy and Permanent Mission, Muyiwa Onifade, alongside officials of the mission and members of the Nigerian community in Austria.
According to her, the reception also included Home-Based Officers, Local Staff and leaders of several Nigerian organisations in Austria, including the Oduduwa Group, Igbo Cultural Group, Nigeria-Austria Friendship Group, Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO), and Nigerian students resident in the country.
Expressing appreciation for the warm welcome, Ajimobi said she was eager to strengthen diplomatic ties between both nations.
“Today, I arrived in Vienna to assume duty as the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Austria and the International Organisations in Vienna,” she wrote.
She added: “I am deeply grateful for this heartfelt welcome and look forward to strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Nigeria and Austria.”
Ajimobi’s appointment follows a series of diplomatic nominations and postings approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In November 2025, the President forwarded the names of 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation, comprising 17 non-career and 15 career ambassadors.
The wife of the late former Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, was among the non-career nominees. Months later, in March 2026, President Tinubu approved the deployment of 65 ambassadors-designate and high commissioners to countries and international organisations across the world. The list comprised 31 non-career and 34 career diplomats.
Ajimobi’s assumption of office marks the formal commencement of her diplomatic assignment as Nigeria seeks to deepen bilateral relations with Austria and strengthen its engagement with international organisations headquartered in Vienna.
