Controversial Nigerian content creator Ademola Abiodun, popularly known as DJ Chicken, has regained his freedom after meeting the bail conditions imposed by a Lagos Magistrate Court over allegations of cybercrime, breach of peace and making threats against Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.
His lawyer, Rotimi Stephen, confirmed the development on Tuesday through an Instagram Story, writing, “All glory to God. DJ Chicken.” Human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher Omoyele Sowore also announced the content creator’s release on X, stating that DJ Chicken had reunited with his family and loved ones.
Shortly after leaving the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, DJ Chicken appeared in an Instagram livestream from inside a vehicle, smiling and interacting with his followers. His lawyer was also seen in the video, which quickly circulated across social media platforms.
The content creator was remanded last Friday after being arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Ogba, Lagos, on a three-count charge bordering on alleged violations of the Cybercrimes Act, breach of peace and making alleged threats to kill Seyi Tinubu. The charges followed a viral video in which he allegedly claimed that President Bola Tinubu would not secure re-election in 2027.
Although DJ Chicken later apologised, insisting the remarks were intended as a joke to attract attention and boost his online popularity, authorities proceeded with his arrest and prosecution.
After pleading not guilty, the court granted him ₦1 million bail with two sureties in like sum. The court directed that one surety must be a civil servant, while the other must be a community leader with landed property in Lagos State. Both were required to provide tax clearance certificates, utility bills, National Identification Number details and Lagos State Residents Registration Agency documentation, with one surety also required to be a blood relative.
The case has been adjourned until August 3, 2026, when proceedings are expected to continue.
Less than 24 hours after his release, DJ Chicken sparked fresh reactions online by changing his Instagram profile picture to that of Seyi Tinubu. He also shared Seyi Tinubu’s photo on his Instagram Stories with the caption, “Hmm ddddy,” and posted videos showing him at public events.
In another video celebrating his release, DJ Chicken thanked Seyi Tinubu and the Federal Government.
“I’m back oo, freedom at last. God bless the Nigerian government, God bless Seyi Tinubu, and our president. I love you guys. Freedom is good,” he said.
The unexpected social media posts have generated mixed reactions, with some users questioning the dramatic turnaround, while others described it as an attempt to move on from the legal dispute as he prepares to return to court in August.
