Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has approved the suspension of the Managing Director of the Imo State Housing Corporation (IMSHC), Barrister Raymond Ucheoma, less than a year after he assumed office.

The suspension took effect on June 2, 2026, according to an official communication issued through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.

In the letter, Ucheoma was directed to immediately relinquish his duties and hand over all government property in his possession to the Secretary of the Corporation or the most senior officer within the agency before the close of work on the effective date.

The state government has not publicly disclosed the reason behind the suspension, leaving questions over the circumstances surrounding the decision.

Ucheoma, a legal practitioner and former Head of Service of Imo State, was appointed Managing Director of the Imo State Housing Corporation in May 2025. His appointment was approved by Governor Uzodimma and conveyed through a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Chief Cosmas Iwu.

At the time of his appointment, the state government expressed confidence in his ability to reposition the corporation and improve service delivery in line with the administration’s development agenda.

The appointment letter noted that the governor expected the new Managing Director to deploy his extensive public service experience to strengthen the corporation and align its operations with the administration’s 3R Prosperity Agenda.

The sudden suspension has sparked interest among political observers and stakeholders within the state, particularly because it comes barely twelve months after his appointment.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Imo State Government nor the suspended official has issued a detailed statement explaining the circumstances that led to the action.

Further developments are expected as the government clarifies its position on the suspension.
