President Bola Tinubu has praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for what he described as outstanding infrastructure delivery in Abuja, saying the minister’s reputation for executing projects is “embedded in his DNA.”
The President made the remarks on Tuesday during the flag-off ceremony for the construction of the service carriageways of the Southern Parkway, stretching from Arterial Road S20 (Oladipo Diya Way) to Ring Road II in Abuja.
Represented at the event by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, Tinubu said Wike had replicated the development-driven approach that earned him recognition during his tenure as governor of Rivers State.
“Most people thought it was only in Rivers State, but you have demonstrated clearly that projects are part of your DNA,” Tinubu said. “Through your actions, you have shown that you are truly Mr Project.”
The President commended Wike for reviving abandoned projects across the Federal Capital Territory, setting clear delivery targets, and completing key infrastructure initiatives within record timelines.
According to him, the FCT administration under Wike has brought renewed focus, discipline, and political will to infrastructure development, aligning closely with the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Tinubu noted that the Southern Parkway project forms a critical part of Abuja’s master plan and is expected to significantly improve traffic movement across the southern districts of the capital city.
He explained that the administration had already completed and commissioned the main carriageway, known as Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way, and that the new service lanes would complete the original vision for the corridor.
The President said the project would directly benefit residents of Durumi, Kudu, Gaduwa, Jikwoyi, and several mass housing estates that currently experience severe traffic congestion along major routes, particularly during peak hours.
“When these service carriageways are completed, travel time will reduce, traffic will flow more freely, and families will spend less time in traffic and more time together,” he said.
Tinubu described the project as part of a broader infrastructure transformation being implemented across the country, particularly within the FCT.
He highlighted several completed and ongoing road projects, including the N20 corridor, now named Wole Soyinka Way, the N16 Interchange linking Jahi and Gwarimpa, as well as road developments in Kuje, Gwagwalada, and Mabushi.
The President said the Southern Parkway service lanes would further decongest Abuja, accelerate development within the southern axis of the city, and create long-term economic and social benefits for residents.
The latest project marks another major infrastructure initiative under the FCT Administration as the Tinubu government continues activities commemorating its third year in office.
