The leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has warned of a possible security threat on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, urging security agencies to heighten surveillance along the busy highway.
Addressing members of his congregation on Sunday, the cleric claimed that bandits could block the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in either July or August. He appealed to security authorities to take proactive measures to prevent such an incident.
“Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, I don’t know the exact time, but it’s either July or August. Bandits will block the road,” Ayodele said.
“They will block the road. So the security agencies need to take this into account,” he added.
The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is one of Nigeria’s busiest transport corridors, linking Lagos with several states in the South-West and serving as a major route connecting the region to northern parts of the country. Thousands of commuters and commercial vehicles use the highway daily.
Although Ayodele did not provide further details to support his warning, he urged security agencies to remain vigilant and strengthen efforts to secure the expressway against any potential attack.
The cleric has, on several occasions, issued public warnings on national security and governance issues. He recently criticised the Federal Government over the country’s security challenges, arguing that it must do more to fulfil its constitutional responsibility of protecting the lives and property of Nigerians.
His latest comments come amid ongoing concerns over insecurity in different parts of the country, with authorities continuing efforts to combat banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had not publicly responded to Ayodele’s latest warning.
