Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested a man accused of impersonating a retired Major General in Kaduna State, in what military authorities describe as an intelligence-led operation.

The suspect was apprehended by soldiers of the 312 Artillery Regiment deployed at the Strike Force Base after security operatives received reports about his alleged activities.

Military sources said the arrest took place on Thursday at about 9:14 a.m. in the Sabo area of Kaduna, where troops moved in following actionable intelligence.

According to sources familiar with the operation, the suspect is currently being held in military custody while preliminary investigations continue.

Authorities are seeking to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged impersonation and determine whether the suspect acted alone or as part of a wider network.

Military officials have not yet disclosed the identity of the suspect or provided details on how long he had allegedly been presenting himself as a retired senior officer.

The Nigerian Army said investigations remain ongoing and that all relevant facts would be thoroughly examined before further action is taken.

After the completion of initial military procedures, the suspect is expected to be handed over to the appropriate law enforcement authorities for additional investigation and possible prosecution.

Security sources added that efforts are underway to uncover the full extent of the alleged scheme and identify any other individuals who may have been connected to the operation.

The arrest highlights ongoing efforts by security agencies to clamp down on impersonation, fraud, and activities capable of undermining public confidence in military institutions.
