A former staff member of the Ogun State Television, identified as Mrs. Kitan Oyesiku, popularly known as “Aunty Kitan,” has been killed alongside her security guard in a brutal attack at her residence in Agodo community along the Abeokuta–Siun–Sagamu Expressway, Ogun State.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Sunday, sending shockwaves through the quiet community and sparking fresh concerns over rising insecurity in parts of the state.
The victims’ bodies have since been deposited at the morgue of the State Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta.
Although the circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear, early accounts suggest that the killings were discovered after concerned church members visited the residence when Mrs. Oyesiku was not seen at church activities.
A community source, who requested anonymity, described how the discovery unfolded.
“What we heard was that it was some church members who actually discovered this horrendous incident,” the source said.
“They had come around to check on Mrs Oyesiku when they did not see her in the church. On getting to her residence, they found out that the security officer had been killed, and they later also saw that the assailants had also killed Mrs Oyesiku. That was how they raised the alarm in the community.”
The attack has thrown Agodo community into mourning, with residents expressing fear and outrage over the killing of the retired media professional and her guard.
Mrs. Oyesiku, a respected figure in media circles, previously worked with the state-owned television station and remained widely known among colleagues and viewers even after retirement. Her death has triggered an outpouring of grief from former colleagues, friends, and residents who described her as dedicated and humble.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the incident, adding that a formal statement would be released after preliminary investigations.
Security agencies are yet to disclose the motive behind the attack or identify those responsible.
The killing adds to growing concerns about violent attacks in residential communities across parts of Nigeria, where residents continue to call for stronger security presence and faster response to emergency situations.
