Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has arrived at the Federal High Court in Kaduna for the continuation of his trial over allegations of financial misconduct, abuse of office, fraud, and the alleged wiretapping of the National Security Adviser.
The former governor arrived at the court premises on Wednesday under heavy security as proceedings resumed in the high-profile case filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
The trial was previously adjourned to June 24, 2026, after two co-defendants failed to appear before the court, preventing the hearing from proceeding on the scheduled date.
El-Rufai is facing multiple allegations linked to his tenure as governor of Kaduna State. The ICPC has maintained that it possesses evidence to support the charges, while the former governor has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
The case has attracted significant public attention due to the nature of the allegations and El-Rufai’s prominent role in Nigerian politics.
Earlier in the proceedings, on April 14, 2026, the presiding judge, Rilwan Aikawa, granted El-Rufai bail in the sum of N200 million.
The court also imposed strict bail conditions, requiring two sureties. One surety must be a serving or retired civil servant not below Grade Level 15, while the second must be a recognised traditional ruler.
El-Rufai’s legal team later approached the court seeking a variation of the bail conditions. However, the application was rejected, leaving the original terms intact.
At Wednesday’s hearing, the two co-defendants who were absent during the previous sitting are expected to appear as the court moves forward with the substantive hearing of the case.
The outcome of the proceedings is being closely watched by political observers, legal analysts, and stakeholders across the country.
Further details from the courtroom are expected as the hearing progresses.
