Fresh developments have emerged in the investigation into the controversial killing of 28-year-old Oghenemine Ogidi, popularly known as “Mine,” after police reportedly arrested two suspects connected to the movement of the firearm linked to the incident.

Sources familiar with the case said one of the arrested individuals is believed to be the sender of the Beretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition allegedly transported from Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, to Effurun in Delta State.

The suspects were reportedly moved into the Effurun Area Command under the Delta State Police Command on Wednesday night as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the gun shipment and Ogidi’s death.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the arrests, but sources disclosed that investigators are widening the probe to identify every individual connected to the firearm transaction.

“It’s confirmed. They just brought in two suspects Wednesday night,” a source familiar with the investigation said.

“It’s not been announced who is who yet, but I can tell you for free that one of them is the person who sent the gun through a transport line from Yenagoa to Effurun.”

According to the source, Ogidi allegedly collected the parcel in Effurun with the intention of delivering it to the owner in Sapele before he was intercepted by police officers at the Effurun Motor Park.

The incident turned deadly after Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nuhu Usman and other officers allegedly opened fire, leading to Ogidi’s death — an incident that has triggered public outrage and accusations of extrajudicial killing.

The identity of the second suspect remains unclear, although investigators suspect the person may be linked to the transportation of the parcel from Bayelsa to Delta State.

“It’s not clear if the other person among the two could be the driver who brought the parcel from Yenagoa. But it’s clear that the sender is among the duo just apprehended,” the source added.

The case has continued to generate widespread reactions, especially following emotional appeals from the victim’s family demanding justice and accountability over the killing.

Public attention intensified after reports surfaced that Ogidi’s grieving mother accused police authorities of repeatedly targeting her family after allegedly losing two sons in separate incidents involving security operatives.

The Delta State Police Command has yet to officially confirm the identities of the suspects or provide further details on the ongoing investigation.
