A tragic road accident along the Imowo–Ibadan road inward Ijebu Ode in Ogun State has claimed the life of a yet-to-be-identified pedestrian after he was struck by a Toyota Coaster bus on Sunday evening.

The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) confirmed the incident, which occurred around 4:45 p.m., saying it led to temporary traffic congestion along the busy route.

According to TRACE, the pedestrian was attempting to cross the road when the speeding bus hit him. Officials said the victim allegedly failed to check for oncoming traffic before stepping onto the roadway.

In a statement issued by TRACE Public Relations Officer Babatunde Akinbiyi, emergency responders and police officers from the Obalende Division were quickly deployed to the scene to restore order and assist in rescue efforts.

“TRACE operatives assisted in carrying the presumed dead into the OGSAS ambulance, while the body was subsequently conveyed to the General Hospital mortuary, Ijebu Ode,” the statement read.

The agency added that the accident caused a brief disruption to vehicular movement as emergency teams worked to clear the scene and manage the buildup of traffic along the corridor.

Officials later confirmed that normal traffic flow had been restored after the bus involved in the crash was evacuated from the road. The vehicle has since been moved to the Police Area Command in Igbeba for further investigation.

Authorities have urged road users, especially pedestrians, to exercise caution when crossing highways, warning that many avoidable accidents continue to occur due to disregard for basic safety rules.
