A tragic incident in Abuja has left residents in shock after a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member allegedly stabbed his father to death during a heated argument at their residence in the Guzape area.
The victim, identified as 53-year-old businessman Mr. Adimike Godwin, was reportedly attacked on Friday night inside his home after a dispute with his son escalated into violence.
Sources familiar with the family said the deceased, a prominent electrical dealer and real estate investor, sustained multiple stab wounds before he was rushed to Karu General Hospital, where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.
The suspect, his son currently serving under the NYSC scheme, was said to have recently returned from a nightclub before the confrontation that allegedly triggered the fatal altercation.
A source linked to the Electrical Dealers Association of Nigeria (EDAN) described Godwin as a well-known businessman with properties in Lagos and Abuja, including in Lekki, Maitama, and Guzape.
According to the source, tensions between father and son had been building over financial disagreements, which allegedly escalated on the night of the incident.
“It was reported that the son confronted his father over money issues, accusing him of being unfair compared to other wealthy parents. The argument escalated and he allegedly stabbed him three times,” the source said.
The suspect has since been taken into police custody along with other individuals believed to be connected to the case, while the victim’s wife has also been invited for questioning.
Officials of EDAN reportedly moved quickly to secure the deceased’s business premises and assets to prevent possible looting following the incident.
Confirming the development, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command said the case came to light after concerned persons raised alarm over the inability to reach the deceased.
Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said officers found the victim lying in a pool of blood upon arrival at the scene.
She added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, had ordered a discreet investigation into the incident.
“The FCT Police Command is investigating the death of Mr. Adimike Godwin of Guzape, which was discovered following a distress call. On arrival, the police found the injured victim in a pool of his own blood. He was confirmed dead by doctors on duty at Karu General Hospital,” she said.
Adeh confirmed that five suspects, including a relative, have been taken into custody as investigations continue, while urging members of the public to remain calm and provide useful information to aid the probe.
The shocking incident has sparked concern in the Abuja community, especially among residents of Guzape, where the family reportedly resides.
