Brazilian superstar Neymar has been named in Carlo Ancelotti’s 26-man squad for the upcoming World Cup, marking a major comeback for the forward after a long spell away from international duty due to injuries.

The 34-year-old, who now plays for Santos, last featured for the national team in 2023. Despite his absence, he remains Brazil’s all-time top scorer with 79 goals in 128 appearances and is set to feature at his fourth World Cup.

Ancelotti, who unveiled the squad at a ceremony in Rio de Janeiro, confirmed Neymar’s inclusion after closely monitoring his fitness and recent form.

“We spent the entire year analysing Neymar,” the Brazil coach said. “We realised that in this last period he had continuity and was in good physical condition.”

The announcement was met with loud cheers from fans as Neymar’s name was read out, signalling excitement over his return to the global stage.

Brazil, five-time World Cup winners, will face Morocco, Haiti, and Scotland in Group C at the expanded 48-team tournament hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The squad features a strong mix of experienced stars and young talents, including Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker, Manchester United midfielder Casemiro, Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães, Arsenal defender Gabriel, and Barcelona winger Raphinha.

Real Madrid star Vinícius Júnior and teenage striker Endrick, currently on loan at Lyon, also made the final list, reinforcing Brazil’s attacking depth.

However, Chelsea forward João Pedro was left out despite an impressive Premier League season, where he scored 15 goals and provided five assists.

Brazil’s full squad also includes Ederson, Marquinhos, Gabriel Martinelli, Matheus Cunha, Igor Thiago, and Luiz Henrique, among others.

The 2026 World Cup will kick off on June 11, with Brazil beginning their campaign against Morocco on June 13.
