Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has officially entered the 2027 Kebbi State governorship race after securing the nomination form of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Malami announced his decision on Saturday through a statement shared across his social media platforms, declaring that he could no longer remain silent over what he described as worsening insecurity, poverty, poor healthcare, and declining education standards in Kebbi State.

The former minister painted a grim picture of the state’s condition, alleging that Kebbi is currently battling one of the most severe humanitarian and governance crises in Nigeria.

According to him, more than 67 per cent of children between the ages of six and fifteen are out of school, while over 88 per cent of children reportedly live in multidimensional poverty across the state.

Malami also raised concerns about the healthcare sector, pointing to high maternal mortality rates and the lack of adequate medical services in many rural communities. He said several families continue to struggle without access to proper antenatal care and basic healthcare infrastructure.

On security, the ADC governorship aspirant alleged that persistent banditry and kidnappings have forced farmers off their lands, disrupted businesses, and deepened economic hardship in affected communities.

He accused the current administration of failing to prioritise the welfare and safety of citizens despite growing insecurity and poverty across the state.

Declaring what he called a “State of Emergency on Misgovernance,” Malami pledged to focus on restoring security, revamping education, improving healthcare delivery, and rebuilding the agricultural sector if elected governor in 2027.

He also promised policies aimed at youth empowerment, job creation, and economic recovery, insisting that Kebbi residents deserve accountable leadership and sustainable development.

Malami said his governorship ambition is rooted in service and responsibility, adding that the era of “ineffective leadership and empty propaganda” must end in the state.

“There will be no retreat and no surrender in the collective struggle to rescue our state,” he declared while urging residents to support his political movement ahead of the election.

His entry into the race is expected to intensify political activities in Kebbi State as parties and aspirants begin positioning ahead of the 2027 governorship contest.
