A magistrate court in Damaturu has sentenced a 22-year-old man to 12 years in prison for the rape of a four-year-old girl in Yobe State, bringing a months-long legal process to a close.
The conviction was delivered by Magistrate Court 1 sitting in Injiwaji, where Rabilu Sani was found guilty of the offence committed in Jakusko Local Government Area.
The presiding magistrate ruled that the evidence presented before the court sufficiently proved the charge, handing down a 12-year custodial sentence without the option of a fine.
Court proceedings also addressed widespread speculation surrounding the case, confirming through medical examination that the convict is not infected with HIV.
The case drew attention across the state, prompting intervention from the Yobe State Government, which actively supported efforts to secure justice for the child.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Ya Jalo Badama, led the government’s involvement throughout the legal process, ensuring the matter was pursued to conclusion.
Officials say the outcome reflects a broader commitment to protecting vulnerable children and holding perpetrators of sexual violence accountable under the law.
Authorities have reiterated calls for continued vigilance and prompt reporting of abuse cases, stressing that community cooperation remains key to preventing similar crimes.
