A disturbing case has rocked Akute in Ogun State after the police arrested three suspects over the alleged murder of a man identified as Stanley Okirie, whose body was reportedly discovered in a shallow grave.
The suspects Maureen Okirie, Salia Karikari, and Jubril Karikariwere taken into custody following a swift operation by the Ogun State Police Command after an anonymous tip-off raised alarm over suspicious activity in the area.
Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the arrest, stating that officers moved quickly after receiving credible intelligence about the incident unfolding in a residential part of Akute.
On arrival at the scene, detectives reportedly caught one of the suspects in the act of attempting to bury a blood-stained corpse in what appeared to be a rushed effort to conceal evidence.
A preliminary assessment of the victim’s body revealed severe head injuries, suggesting a violent attack before death.
Investigators further alleged that the victim was struck with a wooden pestle, and that two of the suspects, who are said to be relatives of the deceased, may have conspired in both the killing and the attempted cover-up.
The suspected weapon used in the attack has since been recovered by the police, while the body has been transferred to the Life Channel Mortuary in Olambe for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Authorities say the suspects remain in custody and will be moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, where further interrogation and prosecution steps will follow.
The case has triggered shock in the community, with residents expressing concern over the alleged involvement of family members in such a brutal incident.
