In a major security sweep across Plateau State, troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), under the special mandate of Operation Wutan Daji (OPWD), have neutralised multiple armed suspects and dismantled several criminal hideouts. The operations, conducted in collaboration with local vigilantes, targeted insurgent and kidnapping networks across key villages in Wase, Qua’an Pan, and Shendam Local Councils.
On April 4, 2026, OPEP forces launched coordinated clearance operations in Babangida, Adua, and Bokayi villages within the dense Dutsen Zaki forest. While patrolling the Babangida–Adua road, troops engaged a heavily armed group of terrorists. Superior firepower allowed the military to neutralise two suspects immediately, while others fled into the forest with injuries.
Capt. Chinonso Oteh, the Media Information Officer of OPEP, confirmed that a subsequent search recovered a locally fabricated firearm, a belt containing 105 rounds of 7.62mm PKT ammunition, 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a cutlass. “These seizures highlight the extent of the arms used by insurgents to destabilise the region,” he said.
The following day, April 5, troops acting on intelligence in Namu District of Qua’an Pan intercepted four suspected terrorists. During an operation to dismantle their hideout, three suspects attempted to escape amid heavy gunfire and were neutralised. The remaining suspect remains in custody.
In a parallel effort, troops in Shendam Local Council, working alongside local residents, apprehended a suspected kidnapper at Gidan Mangoro village. The suspect is allegedly linked to a kidnapping incident on April 3, 2026. All suspects are now in military custody pending further investigation and prosecution.
“These operations demonstrate the Nigerian military’s commitment, in partnership with local communities, to restoring peace and security across Plateau State,” Capt. Oteh added. Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest security post as clearance operations continue.
The coordinated missions reflect an intensified effort to disrupt insurgent corridors, combat illegal arms circulation, and neutralise kidnapping syndicates threatening the state.
