At least 13 people, including children, sustained injuries in a serious road accident at Odogbolu junction on the Ijebu-Ode road in Ogun State. The collision involved a blue Toyota Varso (FKJ 492 HT) and an ash Mercedes Benz (KJA 14 KK).
The Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) confirmed the incident, explaining that 18 individuals were involved, including 10 men, five women, and three children. No fatalities were reported, but 13 passengers suffered varying degrees of injuries.
TRACE spokesperson Babatunde Akinbiyi said that operatives from TRACE, the Amotekun security network, and the Nigerian Police swiftly responded to the scene to conduct rescue operations. “The injured victims were immediately taken to IDERA Hospital in Odogbolu and BABCOCK University Hospital for medical treatment,” he noted.
Eyewitnesses attributed the crash to excessive speed by the Mercedes Benz driver, who reportedly lost control while traveling inbound from Sagamu, resulting in a head-on collision with the Toyota Varso. Akinbiyi added, “According to eye witnesses, both vehicles collided head-on due to excessive speed on the part of the Mercedes Benz driver, which led to loss of control and impact with the Toyota car inbound Odogbolu junction.”
Traffic along the Ijebu-Ode road, which was initially disrupted during the rescue operations, has since returned to normal. Authorities continue to urge motorists to exercise caution and adhere to speed limits to prevent similar accidents.
This latest incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety in Ogun State and underscores the importance of prompt intervention by law enforcement and emergency response teams.
