Kieran Trippier is set to leave Newcastle United at the end of the season, bringing to a close one of the most influential chapters in the club’s modern history.
The experienced right-back will depart when his contract expires this summer, ending a spell that reshaped both his career and Newcastle’s trajectory. Since arriving from Atletico Madrid in January 2022, Trippier has been central to the club’s rise from relegation danger to domestic and European relevance.
His arrival marked the beginning of a new era following the club’s Saudi-backed takeover, with Newcastle struggling in the bottom three at the time. What followed was a rapid transformation, driven in part by Trippier’s leadership, consistency, and elite-level experience.
Over the course of his stay, the former England international helped deliver a historic EFL Cup triumph—ending a 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy—while also playing a key role in securing UEFA Champions League qualification in 2023 and again in 2025.
Confirming his departure in an emotional statement, the 35-year-old described Newcastle as the place where he has “felt most at home,” expressing gratitude to supporters, teammates, and staff.
“It’s emotional and I’m really going to miss it,” Trippier said. “To the fans, thank you for standing by me through everything. To my teammates, it’s been an incredible journey—and winning a trophy together is something I’ll never forget.”
He also paid tribute to manager Eddie Howe, who brought him to the club after working together at Burnley, highlighting the trust that defined their partnership.
Howe, in turn, praised Trippier’s immense contribution, describing him as a player who elevated standards both on and off the pitch. He credited the defender’s technical quality, leadership, and winning mentality as key factors in Newcastle’s resurgence.
Beyond statistics, Trippier’s influence was cultural. His arrival helped attract other key players, including Bruno Guimaraes, and set the tone for a squad that would evolve into one capable of competing at the highest level.
While Newcastle now looks to refresh and reduce the average age of the squad, Trippier’s exit marks the end of a defining era. For many supporters, he leaves not just as a top performer, but as one of the most important signings in the club’s history—and arguably its greatest ever right-back.
