Former Ibrahim Oloriegbe, who represented Kwara Central in the Senate, has formally announced his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Oloriegbe submitted his letter of intent to the party’s Ilorin secretariat on Tuesday, following consultations with family members, party leaders, and other key stakeholders.

“By the grace of God, yesterday, Tuesday, 7th of April, 2026, I visited the State Secretariat of our dearest party, All Progressives Congress (APC), to formally deliver the official letter of declaration of my intention to seek the party ticket to contest for the Office of the Governor of Kwara State in 2027,” he wrote on Facebook.

The ex-lawmaker described his move as a “duty call to serve the people of our beloved State,” highlighting months of deliberation with those close to him and party leadership. He said he also shared his vision for Kwara during his address at the party secretariat, emphasising his readiness to assume the responsibility of governorship.

Oloriegbe was warmly received by Sunday Adeniran, chairman of the APC in Kwara State, along with members of the state working committee. According to Oloriegbe, Adeniran acknowledged his long-standing loyalty to the party and praised his achievements in the Senate and other capacities for enhancing the party’s image.

He also urged party members and supporters to back his ambition, stating: “I look forward to your support as we begin this journey.”

Oloriegbe previously served as a senator in the ninth National Assembly and was appointed Kwara State Amirul-Hajj in 2024. He currently chairs the governing council of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

His declaration marks one of the early high-profile entries into the race for the APC governorship ticket in Kwara ahead of the 2027 elections, setting the stage for what is expected to be a highly competitive contest.
