Fresh criticism has been directed at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with a senior aide to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar accusing him of showing signs of detachment from governance.

In a strongly worded statement, Phrank Shaibu questioned the president’s recent public engagements, arguing that his actions reflect a troubling pattern of absentee leadership at a critical time for the country.

The criticism follows Tinubu’s April 2 visit to Jos, where he travelled to sympathise with victims of an attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area. However, Shaibu claimed the visit was brief and lacked the depth expected of a presidential response.

According to him, the president spent only a short time at the airport, where he met with stakeholders and victims, before departing, an approach he described as dismissive of the severity of the situation.

Shaibu also pointed to Tinubu’s recent trip to Lagos, alleging that the president made limited public appearances despite describing the visit as a working engagement.

During that period, key national assignments—including the inauguration of major infrastructure projects—were handled by Godswill Akpabio, even though the president was reportedly in the state.

The aide further criticised Tinubu’s absence from events such as the commissioning of the Opebi–Mende–Ojota Link Bridge and the Multi-Agency Complex, noting that his only visible outing was the inauguration of an airport project in Iperu, Ogun State.

He argued that the development raises concerns about leadership priorities, especially as Nigeria continues to grapple with insecurity and rising public anxiety.

Shaibu concluded by urging the president to “recalibrate” his approach, warning that continued disengagement could undermine public confidence in the administration’s ability to address pressing national challenges.
