Activist Aisha Yesufu has made it clear she won’t stay silent if Peter Obi goes back on his word.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Yesufu said she would strongly oppose Obi if he becomes president and attempts to serve beyond a single term, something she insists he has repeatedly promised not to do.

Her position isn’t casual or speculative. It’s personal.

According to her, Obi had already made the one-term pledge even before the 2023 election. But she didn’t just take it at face value, she confronted him directly after the election to confirm it.

She recalled asking him point-blank whether he truly intended to serve only one term.

His response, she said, was firm.

He reaffirmed that he meant what he said, stressing that he doesn’t joke with his integrity or make promises lightly. For Yesufu, that wasn’t just a political statement, it became something she attached her own credibility to.

That’s where this gets serious.

She has publicly tied her own name and reputation to that promise. So in her view, if Obi walks it back, it’s not just a political shift—it’s a breach of trust.

And she’s not leaving any room for ambiguity.

Yesufu stated clearly that she would “oppose him with everything” if he tries to extend his stay beyond one term. In her words, a promise given to the public must be honoured.

At the same time, she expressed confidence that Obi would stick to his word, describing him as someone who keeps his promises.

But here’s the real takeaway and where things get interesting.

This isn’t just about one politician or one activist. It’s about political accountability in Nigeria.

Public promises are easy to make during campaigns. The real test is whether anyone is willing to hold leaders accountable after they get into power.

Yesufu is positioning herself as that pressure point.

The question is: if the time comes, will others do the same or will this just be another promise that fades once power is secured?
