The African Democratic Congress (ADC), a coalition of opposition figures preparing for the 2027 general elections, has been forced to seek a new location for its upcoming national convention after an Abuja hotel canceled the booking.

The cancellation, announced just days before the planned gathering, was confirmed in a statement by ADC Vanguard, the party’s mobilisation arm. No public reason has been provided by the hotel, identified as Transcorp Hilton.

Party officials said they remain committed to holding the convention and are exploring alternative venues, with cities such as Kano and Kaduna suggested by supporters. Despite the setback, the ADC affirmed that the programme will go ahead as scheduled.

Earlier this month, the party had released a timetable for nationwide congresses and the national convention. Polling unit and ward congresses were held on April 7, while the national convention was set for April 14 to elect new party leaders and strengthen organisational structures ahead of future elections.

This is not the first time an Abuja hotel linked to the coalition has withdrawn support. In 2025, another venue pulled out of hosting the party’s launch as an opposition platform, citing internal compliance issues.

ADC members said they have already notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the planned activities and remain focused on completing the congresses and convention on schedule, even amid logistical challenges.

The development comes as political activity intensifies across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
