The political landscape in Zamfara State continues to shift as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Bilyaminu Moriki, formally announced the defection of 12 lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was made during a plenary session in Gusau on Monday, March 23, after the affected lawmakers had submitted their resignation letters to the House.
The mass defection is widely seen as part of a broader political realignment in the state, following the recent move by Governor Dauda Lawal, who also left the PDP for the APC.
According to reports, the APC national secretariat has concluded arrangements to formally receive the governor and the defecting lawmakers into the ruling party.
The official reception is scheduled for Tuesday, March 24, where both the governor and the lawmakers are expected to be publicly welcomed into the APC fold.
Political analysts say the development signals a consolidation of power by the APC in Zamfara, with potential implications for future elections and party dominance in the state.
