The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has hinted that some Nigerians may push for a constitutional amendment to allow President Bola Tinubu to serve a third term in office.
The monarch made the remark in a congratulatory message delivered through his spokesperson, Ibrahim Alli, on Tinubu’s 74th birthday. He described the president as a decisive leader who has laid a “new foundation of hope” for the country.
“Many Nigerians may beg for a constitutional review for Tinubu to spend more than two terms in office. He is a leader who knows what he is doing,” Oba Akanbi said.
The Oluwo also praised Tinubu’s leadership, highlighting the administration’s firm stance against practices that previously hindered economic growth. He cited measurable economic improvements under the current government, including a stronger naira, an increase in foreign reserves from about $1 billion to between $49.5 billion and $50.45 billion as of late February/March 2026, and improved economic indicators.
According to the monarch, these developments are the result of key policy reforms such as exchange rate unification, higher oil production, and increased foreign investment inflows.
