An Ikeja Special Offences Court has sentenced an ex-convict, Oluokun Gabriel Adekola, to three years’ imprisonment after he was found guilty of stealing N12 million in a case prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The judgment was delivered on Tuesday by Justice Rahman Oshodi, who ruled that the evidence before the court proved the charge beyond reasonable doubt.
Adekola had been arraigned on March 16, 2026, by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the EFCC on a one-count amended charge bordering on stealing. The prosecution detailed how the sum of N12 million was unlawfully taken, leading to his trial and eventual conviction.
The EFCC confirmed the development in a statement posted on its official X account, reiterating the court’s decision and the charge against the defendant.
“Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, convicted and sentenced an ex-convict, Oluokun Gabriel Adekola, to three years’ imprisonment for theft involving N12 million,” the agency stated.
The conviction adds to a growing list of successful prosecutions by the anti-graft agency, reinforcing its ongoing efforts to tackle financial crimes and ensure accountability across the country. Legal observers say the ruling highlights the judiciary’s stance on repeat offenders and sends a clear warning about the consequences of financial misconduct.
