The Labour Party is witnessing a surge in support in Benue State following a wave of defections from other political parties, including the All Progressives Congress and the African Democratic Congress.

A major boost came with the defection of Hon. Philip Agbese, who represents the Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency and serves as Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, from the APC to the Labour Party.

His move is reportedly linked to internal challenges within the APC in Benue State. He was said to have joined the LP alongside a large number of supporters drawn from the APC, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and ADC.

Among those who followed him are a ward chairman, party secretary, and women leader from his constituency and beyond, signaling a significant grassroots shift.

In a related development, Comrade Tony Christopher Ochube, popularly known as Comrade 1010, also formally joined the Labour Party.

In a letter dated March 22, 2026, and addressed to the Ward Chairman of the Labour Party in Ichama Ward II, Okpokwu Local Government Area, Ochube confirmed his defection from the ADC.

“I hereby write to formally notify you of my decision to join the Labour Party (LP) as a committed member of Ichama Ward II,” he stated.

He explained that the decision followed careful consultations with his supporters and political associates, saying it was aimed at seeking a stronger platform to serve the people of his constituency.

Ochube also expressed confidence in the ideology of the Labour Party, noting that its vision aligns with his commitment to good governance, grassroots development, and empowerment of youths and women.
