Iranian strikes have hit an airbase in the United Arab Emirates where Australian troops are stationed, according to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

The attack targeted the Al Minhad Air Base, igniting a fire that caused damage to medical and accommodation facilities within the base.

An Iranian projectile reportedly struck a road close to the base, which houses more than 100 Australian military personnel.

Albanese confirmed that no Australian personnel were injured in the incident. He noted that it remains unclear whether the strike involved a missile or a drone, but added that the impact triggered a fire, leading to minor damage to an accommodation block and a medical facility.

The Australian leader also said he could not confirm whether Iran deliberately targeted the base, stressing that Australia is not currently at war.

“The Iranian regime is conducting indiscriminate attacks throughout the region. We are aware of this fact,” Albanese stated.

The incident marks the second time the base has come under attack in recent weeks, following an earlier Iranian drone strike during the early phase of the conflict.
