Former member of the House of Representatives, Eta Mbora, has defected to the African Democratic Congress, marking another high-profile shift in Cross River State’s evolving political landscape.

Mbora, who represented Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency in the 9th National Assembly, announced his move on Thursday in Calabar, citing the prolonged internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party as a key reason for his decision.

He said the ongoing instability within the PDP has weakened the party’s structure, making it increasingly difficult for members to operate effectively.

Describing his exit as a difficult but necessary step, Mbora expressed appreciation to the PDP for providing him with opportunities to serve at various levels of government.

“I remain grateful to the PDP for the opportunities it afforded me to serve at the local government, state, and national levels,” he said.

The former lawmaker also thanked his supporters for their loyalty and urged them to join him in the ADC, particularly by taking part in the party’s ongoing registration and revalidation exercise across their wards.

His defection comes amid a broader wave of political realignments in Cross River State ahead of the next election cycle.

Notably, former governor Liyel Imoke and ex-senator Gershom Bassey have also recently joined the ADC, signalling a growing shift in political alliances within the state.

The party is reportedly planning a reception rally to formally welcome Mbora and other new entrants as it seeks to consolidate its presence ahead of future elections.
