Lagos, Nigeria – Adeyemi Kafayat, the estranged wife of Fuji musician Shanko Rasheed, has regained custody of her two children weeks after the death of her first child, Jamal.
The development comes after a tense period in which Kafayat had been separated from her remaining children, who were reportedly in the custody of the singer following the tragedy.
The news was confirmed late Wednesday, March 18, in a social media post by Nollywood actress Biola Adebayo. The actress shared photos of Kafayat reuniting with her children, describing the moment as a long-awaited victory for the grieving mother.
In an earlier emotional interview on Biola Adebayo’s YouTube programme, Talk to B, Kafayat recounted her ordeal, alleging that Shanko Rasheed accused her of being responsible for their son’s death and later stormed the hospital where the child passed away.
She also disclosed that she had not seen her two remaining children for over a week after the death of her first child and was unaware of their whereabouts during that period.
Biola Adebayo, in her post, expressed relief and gratitude over the reunion, noting that the mother of three had finally been reunited with her children after the painful loss.
“Victory at last! Shanko’s wife has finally taken custody of her two children after the loss of her first child. All thanks to everyone that made this happen. Special thanks to @lagosdsva. We are very grateful,” she wrote.
The development has drawn attention to ongoing concerns around child custody disputes and support systems for families going through traumatic loss in Nigeria.
