Delta State, Nigeria – A suspected kidnapper has been killed and another critically injured following a fierce gun battle with operatives of the Issele-Uku Police Division, working alongside the military, local vigilante groups, and hunters.

The operation led by CSP Aderemi Badiru successfully rescued three kidnapped victims and resulted in the arrest of 22-year-old Ahmadu Hassan. Authorities recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with four rounds of live ammunition from the suspect.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Warri, describing the operation as a major breakthrough in the fight against violent crime.

The incident followed a kidnapping report received on March 16, 2026. Security operatives launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation targeting suspected hideouts in the surrounding bush. The operation escalated into a gunfight between the suspects and the security team.

“One of the suspects was fatally wounded during the encounter, while the three victims were rescued unharmed and reunited with their families,” the statement read. “Ahmadu Hassan was arrested with gunshot injuries, and an AK-47 rifle was recovered from the scene. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate.”

The police described the success as a demonstration of effective collaboration between law enforcement, military personnel, and community security groups in combating violent crimes in Delta State.
