The Delta State Police Command has arrested the organiser of the Oramudu Festival, Chief Omorede Sunday, alongside four others, following allegations of sexual assault and molestation of young women during the event in Ozoro community.
The Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, condemned the reported incidents, describing acts of sexual violence as criminal, inhumane, and a violation of the fundamental rights and dignity of victims.
Police authorities confirmed that an immediate investigation has been launched into the matter, with efforts underway to identify and prosecute all individuals involved.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further inquiry.
“Tactical and investigative assets have been duly deployed with a clear mandate to identify, apprehend, and ensure the prosecution of all individuals found culpable,” the statement said.
The command also called on victims and witnesses to come forward with relevant information, assuring that all reports would be handled with strict confidentiality and professionalism.
CP Adesola urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, reiterating the police’s commitment to protecting lives and safeguarding the rights of citizens.
The incident has sparked concern within the community, with authorities pledging that all those found responsible will face the full weight of the law.
