Lagos, Nigeria – Damilola Ayinde Marshall, daughter of Fuji music icon King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall (KWAM 1), has announced her intention to contest for the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Surulere Constituency 2, igniting discussions on “indigene versus settler” politics in the state.

The declaration, made on Tuesday, March 17, highlighted her professional experience as the current Senior Special Assistant on Tourism to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as a key factor in her readiness to serve.

Following the announcement, some social media users questioned her local ties to the constituency. In response, Damilola Marshall cited ownership of property at Nos. 16 and 5 Durojaiye Street as proof of her connection to the area, directly addressing concerns over her indigene status.

Despite this clarification, the conversation sparked further debate online, with some critics arguing that property ownership alone may not sufficiently establish eligibility for political office in Lagos.

The announcement comes amid growing interest in political representation among younger professionals in the state and continues the public fascination with the political ambitions of children of prominent Nigerian figures, including her father, KWAM 1, who has previously expressed interest in the Awujale of Ijebu stool in Ogun State.
