A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Simon Achuba, has sparked political debate after claiming that the Peoples Democratic Party has an internal presence within the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Achuba made the remarks on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, where he also suggested that the APC is inadvertently helping to unify opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, despite the APC’s control of several state governors, many Nigerians are not aligned with the ruling party.
“All the APC is helping us achieve is bringing the opposition together,” he said, adding that electoral support ultimately lies with the people, not political structures.
He further argued that internal disagreements within political parties are shaping alliances ahead of the next election, claiming that loyalty to multiple presidential candidates indicates divided interests within parties.
In a separate development, the Governor of Imo State and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodinma, dismissed speculations about zoning changes within the APC ahead of its national convention.
Speaking to journalists after a meeting of the Progressive Governors Forum in Lagos on Sunday, Uzodinma insisted that the party’s zoning arrangements remain unchanged.
“We are not re-zoning. The offices are already zoned,” he said, adding that the President and Vice President remain in office under the current arrangement.
He stressed that the upcoming APC convention is not intended for primaries, noting that candidate selection for elections will be conducted later under the supervision of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The remarks from both political figures highlight growing tensions and strategic positioning within Nigeria’s political landscape as parties prepare for the 2027 elections.
