Fresh political consultations are underway between former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This was disclosed by the NNPP’s 2023 National Campaign Secretary, Folashade Aliu, during an interview on ARISE Television, where she confirmed that discussions between both political figures are ongoing.
According to Aliu, both leaders who have maintained a long-standing political relationship are exploring the possibility of a strategic alliance, with a formal announcement expected in due course.
She noted that recent interactions, including a meeting and social engagement between Kwankwaso and Obi, signal progress in their discussions.
Aliu emphasized that any potential collaboration would prioritize merit and the broader interest of Nigerians, rather than personal ambition.
“Consultations are ongoing, and a public decision will be made soon,” she said, adding that the alliance could involve either a shared platform or one candidate supporting the other.
She also hinted that strategic considerations, including regional balance, are part of the discussions, with the possibility of considering leadership from different parts of the country.
However, she stressed that no final decision has been made, stating that both sides are still exploring the best political direction ahead of the elections.
On internal party matters, Aliu dismissed claims from rival NNPP factions, insisting that court rulings have already validated the suspension and expulsion of certain members.
Political observers say a potential Kwankwaso–Obi alliance could significantly reshape Nigeria’s 2027 political landscape if it materializes.
