The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports claiming it has chosen a governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement on Tuesday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, described the claims as false and clarified that the APC leadership in the state has not made any decision or agreement on a candidate.
Idris emphasised that the party remains open to all aspirants interested in contesting under its platform, noting that governorship candidates will only be determined through official party primaries.
He further stressed that the APC does not select candidates via stakeholders’ meetings or informal arrangements.
The denial comes amid growing political activity in Zamfara State, with several political figures reportedly positioning themselves for elective offices ahead of the 2027 polls. Idris’ statement also follows the party’s history of internal disputes over candidate selection, which has previously affected its electoral performance in the state.
