Focus on sustainable water, sanitation, and strengthening Nigeria’s continental partnerships

Vice-President Kashim Shettima departed Abuja on Thursday for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 2026 African Union (AU) Summit, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

The summit, themed “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063,” will focus on advancing continental commitments to sustainable water management, improved sanitation systems, and the broader development objectives outlined in the AU’s Agenda 2063 framework.

During his visit, Shettima will join other African leaders at the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of AU Heads of State and Government. He is also scheduled to attend the 30th General Assembly from February 14 to 15.

The vice-president is expected to participate in high-level side events and bilateral engagements with political and business leaders, aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic, economic, and strategic partnerships across Africa.

Accompanying Shettima are cabinet ministers and senior government officials. He is expected to return to Nigeria after completing his official engagements in Addis Ababa.
