The Taraba State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has recorded a significant increase in membership following the defection of a large group of women from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Dangon Community, Dinding Ward, Zing Local Government Area.
The new members were formally welcomed at the ADC State Secretariat in Jalingo by State Chairman Hassan Muhammed Adamu Matawallen Iware, alongside Youth Leader Abubakar Audu and other party officials.
Addressing the women, the chairman described their move as timely and encouraging, highlighting it as a sign of growing public confidence in the party’s leadership and ideology.
“Their decision to join the ADC reflects trust in our vision and commitment to inclusive politics, women empowerment, good governance, social justice, and sustainable development across Taraba State,” Iware said.
The Youth Leader, Abubakar Audu, commended the women for their courage and foresight, assuring them of equal opportunities within the party and encouraging active participation in party activities at all levels.
Speaking on behalf of the new members, the women praised the ADC’s progressive agenda and focus on citizen welfare, citing these as the reasons for leaving the PDP.
The defection underscores the ADC’s rising influence in Taraba and its growing appeal among women and youth, signaling potential political shifts ahead of upcoming elections.
