The family of Nollywood veteran Pete Edochie has dismissed widespread social media rumours claiming the actor had passed away.

The rumours, which went viral over the weekend, prompted a response from the actor’s family, with his eldest son, Leo Edochie, speaking directly to fans via Instagram.

In a video posted on his page, Leo Edochie described the reports as “a lie from the pit of hell.”

“I’ve been receiving text messages and calls over the nonsense post by some people that our father, Chief Pete Edochie, is dead. It is a lie from the pit of hell,” Leo said.

He added: “Our father is alive, hale and hearty. And if you wish someone dead, two things usually happen. The person will live very long and you will die before him. Shame to all of you.”

The actor, widely regarded as one of Nollywood’s most respected figures, continues to be active and in good health, according to his family.

Fans and well-wishers have been urged to verify news before sharing and to refrain from spreading false information about public figures.
