The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that its national secretariat at Wadata Plaza will reopen on Monday, signaling a return to normalcy within the party. The announcement comes from the faction led by Abdulrahman Mohammed and backed by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) quarterly meeting with political party leaders in Abuja on Thursday.

The PDP national secretariat was sealed by the Nigeria Police Force on November 19, 2025, after clashes erupted between the Taminu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) and the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led caretaker faction.

Speaking on the matter, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, acting National Secretary, confirmed that legal challenges over access had been resolved in the party’s favor.

“We wrote to the police. The other group went to court to ask the police to open it, but the matter was dismissed because they had no locus. So by Monday, we are taking over the office,” Anyanwu said.

He emphasized that the PDP remains under the leadership of Mohammed, asserting that the party is unified. He cited a Federal High Court ruling in Ibadan, which nullified the party convention held on November 15-16, 2025, declaring that no other individual can claim membership of the NWC.

“The body that has full authority to administer the party is the National Caretaker Committee, led by Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed,” Anyanwu said, noting that members are pleased that normal operations have resumed.

Addressing concerns over the upcoming elections, he confirmed that the PDP will field candidates for all positions and will actively campaign in the FCT Area Council elections.

“We are going to hit the ground running with our campaign until February 18, the last day for campaigning,” Anyanwu said.

Reacting to the registration of two new political parties by INEC, he welcomed the development as a boost for Nigeria’s democracy, bringing the total number of recognized political parties to 21.

Mohammed and Anyanwu earlier represented the PDP at the INEC meeting with political parties, reinforcing the faction’s position as the legitimate leadership of the party.
