The Kwankwasiyya Movement has dismissed claims that its leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is planning to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling such reports “false, baseless, and deliberately misleading.”
In a statement signed by movement spokesperson Dr. Habibu Sale Muhammad, Kwankwasiyya condemned what it described as speculative media narratives aimed at discrediting the former governor of Kano State. “Senator Kwankwaso has never engaged in negotiations, discussions, or meetings with the APC, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, or any intermediary regarding defection,” the statement said.
Dr. Muhammad stressed that the only formal meeting between Kwankwaso and President Tinubu occurred in January 2024, and it did not involve discussions about political alignment or defection. He warned that unverified speculation threatens to mislead the public and distort the political narrative.
“Meetings without facts must not be converted into false narratives,” the spokesperson said, adding that attempts to portray Kwankwaso as negotiating secretly are part of coordinated efforts to undermine his influence ahead of future political realignments. He further pointed out that some media figures promoting these claims have personal ambitions linked to the APC.
Kwankwasiyya reiterated that Kwankwaso’s political strength is rooted in his connection with ordinary Nigerians, not elite consensus or media speculation. “His political discipline, integrity, and principles remain unshaken. His base continues to focus on facts and is unswayed by orchestrated narratives and half-baked conclusions,” the statement concluded.
The movement urged Nigerians to disregard unverified reports and speculative analyses circulating in parts of the media, emphasizing that journalism should remain grounded in factual accuracy, balance, and verified investigation.
