Former Nigerian Super Eagles stars Kanu Nwankwo, Jay Jay Okocha, Finidi George, and Daniel Amokachi are confirmed to feature in the African Legends United Gala Match, part of the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA) Festival 2026 in Abuja.
Kanu Nwankwo revealed the development during an interview on the sidelines of the ACFTA Fest, emphasizing the event’s role in promoting African culture and empowering grassroots football.
“It’s happening in Nigeria and the legends are going to be there. They are going to do what we normally know how to do, and everybody will enjoy it,” Kanu said.
He stressed that the event aims to inspire the younger generation and foster appreciation for the African continent. “We are giving back, and that’s why we all agreed to be involved in this kind of event. Myself, Jay Jay Okocha, Daniel Amokachi, and others will participate on March 28,” he added.
The ACFTA Fest, scheduled from March 26 to 28, will culminate in the African Legends United Gala Match at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, according to former Cameroonian football legend Eyond Enoh.
Enoh highlighted that a key goal of the festival is unity across Africa, bridging historical divisions. “The African Continental Free Trade Area and this festival aim to change the lines that divide into lines that unite. Our motto is one Africa, one market, one future,” he said.
Aside from the gala match, the festival will feature other events including Startup Fames and Heritage Waves, celebrating African heritage, innovation, and sports excellence.
The African Legends United Gala Match promises to be a celebration of football, culture, and continental unity, bringing together legendary players from across Africa to inspire the next generation.
