The Federal High Court Abuja has approved the prosecution of five suspects connected to notorious terrorist leader Bello Turji, in absentia.

Justice Emeka Nwite granted the request after David Kaswe, representing the Attorney-General of the Federation, informed the court that the defendants failed to appear for the third time.

The defendants—Musa Muhammed Kamarawa, Abubakar Hashimu (aka Doctor), Bashir Abdullahi, Samuel Chinedu, and Lucky Chukwuma—are accused of providing material support to Turji and other terrorist groups. Allegations include supplying illicit drugs, weapons, military uniforms, and building materials to camps in Zamfara State, Sokoto State, and Kaduna State.

Among the counts, the prosecution claims that Kamarawa, Turji (at large), and others purchased a military gun truck from Libya in 2021 for N28.5 million to aid terrorist activities in Sokoto State. Additionally, in 2018, some suspects allegedly provided medical aid and shelter to Turji following attacks in Zamfara State.

Justice Nwite adjourned the trial to April 13, 2026, for continuation. The case has a complex history: the charge, originally filed in December 2024, was struck out in July 2025 due to “lack of diligent prosecution” but was later reinstated by the court.

The suspects remain at large or in custody, while the Federal Government continues efforts to bring Turji and other high-profile bandits to justice under the Terrorism (Prevention) (Amendment) Act 2013.
