Dele Momodu, chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has called on Nigerian politicians to prioritise democratic principles over personal ambition.
His remarks came in response to comments by ADC Interim National Chairman, David Mark, who told Senate President Godswill Akpabio to refrain from speaking for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding electronic transmission of election results.
Speaking in Abuja, Mark urged the Senate to pass the Electoral Act Amendment Bill while allowing INEC to handle technical aspects of result transmission, emphasizing that Nigerians desire transparent elections with electronic results transmission.
Reacting on X (formerly Twitter), Momodu praised Mark’s intervention, writing:
“Thank you sir, our ADC Chairman, Brigadier General David Mark (rtd.), for your brilliant intervention.
My personal advice to our politicians is: Don’t allow anyone’s personal ambition lead you to hell fire. Promote transparent democratic tenets and ideals.”
Momodu’s statement highlights the ongoing debate within Nigerian political circles over electoral transparency and the use of technology to bolster public confidence in the democratic process.
